Retaining Wall in North Vancouver — Lower Lonsdale Tiered Wall
A tiered segmental block wall built for slope stability, cleaner landscaping lines, and proper drainage—designed for long-term performance in North Vancouver’s wet conditions.
Project overview
This property needed a clean tiered solution to retain grade changes without crowding the usable yard space. We engineered the base prep and drainage to reduce hydrostatic pressure and keep the wall aligned through seasonal freeze/thaw.
The problem
- Grade change causing erosion and unusable planting areas
- Water buildup risk behind the wall (common in Metro Vancouver)
- Need for a neat, modern finish that matches the home
Our solution
- Excavation + compacted base prep for stable leveling
- Drain rock + perforated drain pipe + filter fabric
- Tiered layout for better load distribution and aesthetics
- Clean caps and transitions for a finished look
Materials used
- Segmental retaining wall block system
- Washed drain rock + geotextile fabric
- Perforated drain pipe + daylight/connection as required
- Cap stones + polymeric adhesive where appropriate

FAQs
Do retaining walls in North Vancouver need drainage?
Yes. With heavy rainfall and hillside lots, drainage is essential. We typically include drain rock, perforated pipe, and filter fabric to manage water and reduce pressure behind the wall.
Can you match the wall style to my home?
Yes. We select block profiles, cap styles, and tiering layouts to match modern or traditional homes, and we keep lines straight with careful base prep and compaction.
Do you handle permits or engineering?
For taller or more complex walls, we can coordinate engineering requirements and advise on permit considerations based on your municipality and site conditions.
